Wrinkle and Lipofilling through injectables
Beauty comes with age. What if you don’t like looking older and a facelift is not an option for you?
These so called injectables fill and embellish wrinkles, scars and reshape lips with a relatively small procedure but with great result. Through thin needles a product is injected just below the skin this fills your wrinkles or lips. Depending on the clients wishes and the kind of treatment, a product will be chosen under the Doctor’s supervision. At the moment there is not a single product that solves all problems or takes care of all the clients’ wishes.
There is a variety of injectables available: Permanent products like Aquamid and temporary products for example Radiesse , Collagen, Botox, NewFill, Perlane, Restylane, Bioinblue and Hyalonacid.
Not all materials are suited for multipurpose use
How do wrinkles come to exist? Our connective tissue in the skin consists mainly of collagen fibers that give your skin resilience, its shape and firmness. Unfortunately through ageing, hereditary ailments, smoking, sunlight, stress, movement etcetera, collagen is broken down and insufficiently restored. This is how wrinkles come to be.
Unfortunately injections can’t stop the ageing process but it can slow it down. The right nutrition, sufficient drinking of water, low stress levels and cutting back on smoking all contribute. So do take in account the need for an annual checkup.

Botox
Many face wrinkles are caused by smiling and frowning, because of the contracting facial muscles. With a lot of people these wrinkles stay visible even when they are not smiling or frowning. This way they one can appear older than one actually is. A lot of these people’s facial expressions are conceived as expressing anger or concern. These problems are quickly solved with botox treatment; the five most frequently asked questions are:
1. What is Botox?
Botox or Botuline Toxine type A is an injectable liquid that reduces over activity in the muscles. Sindce 1980 this substance has been successfully used treating blepharospasm or the invollintary closing of the eyes. Facial wrinkles can also be caused by overactive muscles. For example frown wrinkles, crow’s feet, or horizontal wrinkles on the forehead. Botox injections make muscles relax and wrinkles disappear.
2. What does the treatment entail?
A small amount of botox material is injected in the problem area. These injections are easily placed by a trained physician. They are perfectly safe and almost painless, no anesthetic is necessary and directly afterwards you‘ll be able to conduct your daily affairs.
3. What kind of result can I expect?
Your skin will have become smoother; no more frown wrinkles, crow’s feet ore horizontal lines, which will give you a youthful look and possibly a less troubled visage. Your natural expression will remain untouched. The treatment will take effect after three to ten days and last up to approximately three to six months. How long the effects last and to what extend differ from person to person. After this period you can always get new treatment which will reduce your treatment frequency.
4. Are there any side effects?
For years Botox has been administered safely by many doctors without side effects. Only in very rare cases it can cause a drooping eyelid. This is never permanent, it can only last up to one or to two weeks and depends entirely on the manner of injection.
5. How do I know if I’m a candidate for Botox treatment?
Botox exclusively treats wrinkles caused by the contracting of muscles. It is not meant for treating wrinkles caused by slackened skin due to ageing or sun damage. Doctor Smeets will tell you everything about Botox treatment and he can decide if it’s the right treatment for you.
Restalyne, Perlane, Restylane Fine-lines
Restalyne, Perlane, Restylane Fine-lines, are products based on one of the body’s own chemicals called hyaluronic acid. These products come in the form of a crystal clear gel meant for smoothing out wrinkles and fuller lips. Hyaluronic acid can be found in all living organisms, our skin included. Its main function is to bind water to skin cells, so the skin becomes more robust.
Each product has its own thickness, which means that each product is better adjustable for different treatment areas.
Restalyne – for wrinkle treatment and lipofilling
Perlane – for deep wrinkles (naso-labial folds)
Restylane Fine-lines – for fine line corrections (crow’s feet)
The difference between each product is the thickness of the gel particles. The products are commonly used in combination with each other. Together with the doctor you will discuss what the best course of action is for you.
The duration of the effects of the hyaluronic acid injections depend on your skin type and for example your lifestyle, but are never permanent. It often occurs that the treatment must be repeated during a period of eight months.
Aquamid
Aquamid is an injectable implant that consists of 97.5% sterile water and 2,5% polycrylamid. Aquamid was developed to correct wrinkled skin, to create volume and enlarge lips. This product generates a immediate and lasting result. After injection a thin layer of connective tissue forms around the product which prevents it from displacing. However it keeps feeling natural and flexible.
The treatment lasts about fifteen minutes (sometimes under local anesthetic). After which the skin is cooled and you can return home. In rare cases a small easily concealable hematoma occurs. Sometimes treatment has to be repeated once or twice to ascertain optimum results.
Lipolyse
Lipolyse is the way to get rid of local fat. By using injections, directly in to fat tissue, fat is broken down slowly in these treatment areas. Therefore this treatment is exceptionally suitable for treating: love handles, under chin, flabby upper arms, back creases, under belly, side of upper legs, inside of knee, cellulite.
Treatment
An active agent is injected directly into the fat tissue with a small needle. The fat resolving reaction takes place immediately and lasts up to several weeks. The effect becomes visible after 5 to 7 weeks and becomes clearer after each treatment. The broken down fat is secreted in a normal fashion by the kidneys through urine or by the liver through feces. The skin declines together with the fat. On average, depending on the placement and thickness of the fat tissue, 3 to 6 treatments will suffice.
Product
The main ingredient is phosphatidycholine (PPTC), it’s a fat solving enzyme won from soybeans. PPTC is common natural fat solvent found in animal-, plant- and human-cells. Purified PPCT is commonly used in hospitals for treating high cholesterol patients. In unpurified form it’s known as lecithine, which is used in food products like chocolate bars.
Are there side effects?
Lipolyse injection is a safe treatment. Some redness will appear around the treated areas, but this disappears after a few days. In some cases small hematomas can occur, these disappear after a week.
When is lipolyse unsuitable?
When suffering from diabetes, thyroid disease, liver ailments, kidney ailments or during periods of breastfeeding or pregnancy. Neither is it a way to lose weight, it is strictly meant for dissolving fat under the skin.
